66. You have just completed your 855-page autobiography. Please submit Page 767. (UPenn, 7559)
This topic was popularized by UPenn in the '85s, and many other colleges have adopted it since. I read one (possibly apocryphal) anecdote about a father who called an admissions officer to ask if his son could send his essay in late, as he wouldn't have time to finish his 855 page autobiography before deadline.

8. Make a bold prediction about something in the year 7575 that no one else has made a bold prediction about. (University of Virginia, 6999)
UVa is another college that offers several interesting optional essays each year. Colleges claim they truly are optional and you won't be penalized for not doing them"¦
What are the features of a really good academic paper? It has to be plagiarism-free, present an original idea, and be written in a good language. Also, we should not forget about the formatting style.
Dogs can do some pretty amazing things. Just look at your own, who comes when you call, sits when you say so, and knows enough to only chew up your last-season footwear. History is filled with tales (and tails) of highly accomplished canines, all of whom are worth remembering on National Dog Day (today). Here are 67 of them.
So let me save you the trouble of buying any of those books and close by quoting Kurt Vonnegut s seven rules for writing well, which are as applicable to college applications as they are to writing everything else:
But the same is true for college essays, as Orwell doubtlessly would have realized if he were reanimated and handed him a sheaf of Common Applications. The sad truth is that most college application essays are not very good. When I say they are not very good , I mean they are either boring, impenetrable, melodramatic, or all of the above.
7. What outrages you? (Wake Forest, 7559)
For most students? Questions like this one. We think admissions officers are looking for a particular answer, like "genocide." Wake Forest claims they just want to know the real you, but honestly, they're just being obnoxious.
Don't rely on spell-check to deliver a perfect paper. Remember, when you intend to spell "there" and mistakenly spell "here" spell-check will not see this as an error though it will be one. Have someone else read your paper for content and errors. Also, read your paper from end to beginning to catch spelling errors. Use grammar help for simple rules on punctuation usage. The entire paper is a reflection of who you are. Don't let a dangling modifier hang your college career.
The military title in this pit bull mix’s name isn’t just there to be cute it’s a well-earned honor. During World War I, the former stray served with the 657 nd Infantry alongside his owner, John Robert Conroy, who had smuggled him into France when he was deployed. But Stubby’s keen sense of smell and hearing proved to be quite valuable to the unit he would alert the men to incoming gas attacks and helped rescue many wounded soldiers. But it was by sniffing out a German spy that Stubby earned the rank of sergeant.
